Fourth common task: weather-related traditions

 

In our fourth common task, we deepened our knowledge of weather-related proverbs and sayings from our countries or regions.

First, we created a map using Genially and labelled it with our regions or countries. Each pin contained a proverb, which had to be written in both our own language and in English. It also had to contain a brief description of its meaning.

Then, schools were matched and each one had to draw a picture of the matched partner's proverb using Hotpot or any other AI image generation tool.

Finally, we created a pair-matching game using LearningApps. Each school had to upload both the proverb and the AI-generated image. Then the students had to play the game and try to correctly match the sayings and images.

Fifth common task: TV weather forecast

  In our fifth common task, each school had to present in video format the weather forecast for their partner's city or region. Once schools were matched, they had to take a look at the website www.ventusky.com, select their partner's city or region and collect all the weather data. With all that information, students had to write a weather report using short and simple sentences and practise it out aloud. When they felt ready, they had to record a video presenting the weather forecast as if they were weather presenters. The video had to be recorded with the Ventusky map in the background. All videos were collected in a Wakelet.

Sixth common task: climate change

  The sixth and final task actually consisted of two activities. On the one hand, schools had to collect evidence of climate change in their own countries. On the other hand, schools had to write a chain story about climate change with two different plots and endings. For the first activity, each school collected some photographs showing the effects of climate change and uploaded them to a Digipad. Students had to post comments below the pictures. As for the second activity, we used the season technique to write the stories and worked in transnational teams. Both stories began in the same way, that is, with a boy who finds a strange box containing a terrifying prophecy about future disasters caused by climate change. The White Book tells how the boy and his friends avoid disasters. The Black Book, on the other hand, shows how everything ends badly because humanity is unable to stop climate change. Second common task: comparing meteorological phenomena

  In our second common task students had to compare meteorological phenomena. First, they had to collect weather data from their own countries or regions. Divided into groups, each one monitored and recorded temperature and weather conditions during a period of time from December 4th to 10th. Each school had to fill out a table with all the information collected. Then in teams we compared the data and wrote a report on our matched school to see if there were common patterns and trends. Finally, we created a presentation in Canva with all the meteorological reports. Each slide had to contain a photograph of the table with the meteorological data collected between December 4th and 10th, a report on the data of the matched school and 3 photographs taken on December 4th showing what we could see under our feet, around us and in the sky.
